Book Review: Dwellers of Darkness (Darkness #3) by Stacey Marie Brown

4.5 gems

dwellers of darkness

Dwellers of Darkness picks up right where Fire in the Darkness ended. It’s been three years in Earth years, since Ember has been in the Otherworld. Seattle is now back on its way to become what it once was. Now she’s back with her mother, best friend Kennedy and Dark Dweller Jared. Things are worse than ever with both the Seelie Queen and the Unseelie King after her. The only thing that hasn’t changed is her connection to Eli Dragen; the sexy, gorgeous, dark and dangerous Dark Dweller. He is now more dangerous and volatile than ever. And their relationship is being held by a thread. But Ember has more to worry about.

Her father Mark, Ryan, West and Josh are still prisoners of the Seelie Queen. And Kennedy is the last living Druid. It’s up to Ember now to save her family and friends. Like her first two books, Stacey’s Dwellers of Darkness is also a roller-coaster ride. Action packed and fast paced. Many questions are answered and a lot more questions come to the forefront. We find out instances from Eli’s past, but his connection to Lily is still not revealed. All Ember knows is that everyone is harbouring a secret, and there is no one she can completely trust. Eli and Ember’s relationship is as complicated as ever and Torin’s entry does not helping matters. With a bond to both Eli and Torin, Ember has to make a choice. She has to choose between what her heart wants and what her bond compels her to do.

It was pretty clear to the reader what Ember really wanted. She just had to work her way through all the confusion in her head. We see a lot of Eli and Ember as a couple. They are constantly fighting, but then again they are constantly going at it like rabbits. I was finally happy to see them together-together. Their banter was as entertaining as usual. So much so, that it was quite the highlight of the book. It was fun and snarky and not to mention full of innuendos. I had missed the two of them.

We get a lot of information in this book, regarding both Ember and Eli’s past, quite unexpected as they were. On a quest to find the Sword of Light, the Dark Dwellers, a Druid, a Dae, Faries, Pixies and the Unseelie King have to work together. This book was quite an adventure. It would be hard to bid adieu to Eli and Ember. The book was well written, with a solid story-line and equally solid characters. I was excited to find out what is going to happen next throughout the book. I was really disappointed that it came to an end. There were some unexpected twists.

***SPOILER*** like Ember’s relationship to Lars and some not so unexpected twists like Josh being a spy for the Seelie Queen. For a guy who did not want to leave the Otherworld, he was quite keen to take revenge on the Seelie Queen. I found it fishy from the beginning itself. ***END OF SPOILER***

Overall a wonderful read. Those who haven’t read this series should definitely pick it up. You will not be disappointed.
